The State-Local Accommodations Tax Advisory Commission met May 16, 2024 to review and discuss applications for accommodations tax funds and to make a recommendation to City Council for distribution of the funds.
State law specifies requirements for spending accommodations tax revenue:
- first 30% allocated for exclusive use by a tourism program to increase tourist attendance through tourism advertising and promotion. Annually this portion of funds is designated to the Hartsville Tourism Office.
- balance used for tourism-related expenditures as defined in state law (ex: tourism advertising & promotion, promotion of arts and cultural events, tourist shuttle transportation, operating visitor centers, etc.)
